Rows and rows of palm trees dotted with little spots of crystal, blue water- this is the first glimpse of India’s favourite holiday destination, Goa. Brimming with people during the tourist season, this haven of beauty and serenity is perfect for more reasons than one. One of the most important and one mentioned on every Goa holiday package is its food!

With every street, every beach offering you something new, a trip to Goa is nothing less than a gastronomical journey, one that you’ll be sure to remember for a long time. Besides, the local Goan cuisine, there are traces of Italian, Asian and Israeli food in almost every café and restaurant in this beachy paradise. Since Goa sees a number of foreign tourists every year, some who even call the town their home, there are umpteen restaurants specializing in Thai, Greek and Vegan food.

Though, Brittos, Souza lobo and Infantaria continue to be a favourite for regulars, there is a strong and growing following for Thalassa, La Plage, Chocolatti and the likes. Serving international cuisines, these restaurants have a steady stream of visitors throughout the year, owing to their beautiful ambience and authentic food. Street food in Goa is not too far behind either. Crowded with open air cafes and pubs, Goa always has something exciting on the menu. Restaurants on the beach or overlooking the sea are a special favourite for a quiet, relaxed evening and warm hospitality. From fresh sea food like Prawn Xacuti, Surmai to a lavish Mediterranean meal, whatever you may be in the mood for, Goa doesn’t disappoint.

There is enough to keep nocturnal creatures happy as well, since most cafes are open till the wee hours of the morning and serve delicious grub including bacon sandwiches, chicken sizzlers and steaks. You may also want to go the healthy way one evening and try the many cafes offering organic food and light meals along with mouth-watering beverages including shakes and flavored teas.

The only suggestion, then, for those who are travelling to Goa is try everything you can. Irrespective of whether you are a foodie or not, the food served in Goa’s belly is astonishingly scrumptious to say the least.
