It is a truth universally acknowledged that planning an international trip takes time. You have decisions to make – where to go, how much it will cost, what to see, what to carry and more. You book your tickets, arrange for your accommodation, and buy your insurance. There’s just one step remaining – the visa.

The visa is the gateway to your international trip. Obtaining that visa is a moment of relief and joy – now your trip can begin, finally.

For many people though, the moments leading up to the visa can be nerve wracking. In the middle of work, family, friends and the other small moments that make up life, you have to find the time to find the right documents, make payments and wait anxiously until you receive your visa. Who has the time?

If there’s one visa that fits into your busy schedule, that doesn’t need you to run around – it’s the e-Visa.

1. What is an e-Visa?

It very simply stands for electronic-visa. An e-Visa is completely processed online – from the application, the payment and the final delivery of the visa. Although the process is different (completely online), the e-Visa allows the same access as a regular visa, in the countries that allow it.Which countries allow an e-Visa? Although this process is convenient and quick, not every international destination offers you the option of an e-Visa. Currently, 24 countries in the world offer travellers the choice of an e-Visa. Some of these countries are Malaysia, Australia, Cambodia, Bahrain, Kenya, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka and India amongst others.

3. What is unique about the Malaysian e-Visa?

On 1st March 2017, Malaysia joined the list of countries that offer an e-Visa to travellers. Malaysian e-Visas applications are open to citizens from Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Montenegro, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Serbia and, of course, India. e-Visa applications are also open to those who are seeking student and expatriate visas to enter Malaysia.

Malaysian e-visa is valid for 3 months and has no restrictions on the place of departure. Single e-Visa holders can stay for a duration of up to 30 days, while multiple entry e-Visa holders can stay between 15 to 30 days.

The visa review process for Malaysia takes at least 1 business day after you submit your application (you might need to submit extra documents or participate in a visa interview, which might affect the time it takes to obtain the visa.)
