Portugal, officially known as the Portuguese republic is situated on the south west of Europe and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean in the west and Spain in the east. Its location makes it one of the warmest countries in Europe. The Algarve, which is the southernmost region of Portugal, is the perfect place to visit anytime of the year. Its several beaches and extraordinary seafood woo tourists from the world over. Feel like spoiling yourself a little? Rent one of the many beach-side villas strewn across the Algarve and take in as much sun, sand and sangria as you can. Adventure junkies can satisfy themselves with one of the several water sports offered on the many beaches which include sailing, paragliding and water skiing.

Speaking of sangria, Portugal is famous for many of the world class wines it produces and is also one of the largest wine producers in the world. Do not forget to try one of the many Port and Madeira’s available, they’ll blow you away.

If you wish to do more then just laze around the beach and enjoy good food, there are plenty of historical monuments to be seen. Visit the Riberia in Porto or Guimaraes, one of the oldest cities in the country and be enchanted by the vast history and culture of Portugal. Guimaraes is said to be where the foundation of Portugal was laid. Being the birthplace of Afonso I. Coimbra, it houses the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest universities on the world.
